ABOUT PROJECT

LET ME DRAW YOU A STORY brought together illustrators from Switzerland, India, and Bhutan to create new artworks inspired by more than 100 drawings submitted by children from India and Bhutan!

Building on earlier editions of the project in 2020 and 2021, where children aged 6–10 from India and Bhutan wrote stories inspired by Swiss children's books that were later illustrated by Swiss practitioners and narrated by Indian storytellers, this edition shifted the focus from storytelling through words to storytelling through images.

For LET ME DRAW YOU A STORY, children's drawings—created in response to one of ten extracts from Swiss children's books—became the starting point for the artists' work, offering a glimpse into how children observe, interpret, and imagine the world. Over three months, the participating artists met to exchange ideas, reflect on their creative practices, and discuss the opportunities and challenges of making art for young audiences.

We will be at Bhutan Echoes between 1-3 August!

PROCESS
PHASE 1: Collecting Stories
Each participating child created a drawing inspired by one of ten prompts, offering their personal visual interpretation.

PHASE 2: Drawing Stories
A team of Swiss, Indian, and Bhutanese illustrators then viewed selected drawings and created new artworks inspired by the children’s imagination.

PHASE 3: Sharing Stories
This dialogue across geography allows artists to reflect on familiar stories transformed by children’s perspectives, resulting in richly layered works.
The project is currently being presented online and through festivals in Bhutan and India.
