About the activity:
Can men be primary school teachers? Can women be taxi drivers? A large section of society would say no, they can't be. But is that really true? Does gender determine our ability to work in certain professions, or have certain hobbies? These were some of the questions that participants were encouraged to explore through this activity. They were asked to match male and female character cards with job roles like computer engineer, teacher, writer and so on. Around 60% of the participants assigned male character cards to typically "masculine" professions like engineer and taxi driver. This shows that society's diktats about gender roles still have a strong impact on young minds. This video is an artistic representation of the variety of jobs that can be held by individuals despite one's gender, and includes the participants' own drawings. |
