In May 2020, ThinkArts presented an online session, Some Forgotten Histories of Jallianwala Bagh, aimed to engage students with the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre, open up a few less known facets of this episode of our history in its 101st year, and seek creative responses from the participating students.
It was anchored by Sarmistha Dutta Gupta, an independent researcher, writer and the Guest-Curator of the installation exhibition 'Ways of Remembering Jallianwala Bagh and Rabindranath Tagore's Response to the Massacre' for the Victoria Memorial Hall Kolkata. On 20th May, the first session was conducted with 33 students from Classes 9 upwards, from 4 schools - Akshar, Indus Valley World School, Modern High School for Girls, and Patha Bhavan. On 28th May, a follow up session took place, where the students shared their perspectives, ideas, and creative responses. |
30th May, 2020 marked 101 years from the day Rabindranath Tagore relinquished knighthood after the Jallianwala Bagh tragedy.
It was on this day that the creative, thought-provoking responses that we received from the students were uploaded on our Facebook page - the artistic & literary responses can be found in this album here and the video responses can be found here.
