JUNIOR KOLKATA LITERARY MEET | EDITION V

Picture
Since 2017, ThinkArts has curated this annual literary festival for young readers. Presented by Kolkata Literary Meet, one of the leading literature festivals of the city, the edition for children and young people includes Author sessions, creative workshops, book launches and more. Hundreds of children from schools across Kolkata, attend the festival every year. Award winning authors from India and abroad have graced the festival.

While our hearts were heavy knowing that this year, we won't be able to experience the festival the way we have in the past, January has always called for a celebration of books and all things literary! So, to stay connected and keep the tradition going, we were thrilled to present a short virtual line-up of enriching conversations and sessions for this year's meet!

Curated by ThinkArts, Junior Kolkata Literary Meet Edition V presented these three wonderful online sessions to keep our young audience engaged...

Mishti and Me

The story of a mischievous dog in a changing city - Gillian Wright discusses her book, Mishti, the Mirzapuri Labrador, in conversation with Ruchira Das.
Suggested age group: 8-10 years

Gillian Wright is a writer and translator whose home lies on the edge of one the oldest parts of Delhi, rich in built heritage and green spaces. From childhood she has been fascinated by the natural world and to get through Covid times searched for that world in the city nearby her home. She watched birds and learned about butterflies, dragonflies and damselflies.  With her as she watched was her dog. She is convinced of the enormous value of the companionship of animals in difficult times. Her book Mishti is a portrait of such companionship and one exceptional Labrador (and her pups).
